Lara comes to the bar after 16 years of practice as a solicitor in the area of criminal law.

Lara worked as a solicitor at the Commonwealth Director of Public Prosecutions for 13 years, as both a Principal Legal Officer and a Senior Federal Prosecutor.   She had conduct of a wide range of matters involving alleged Commonwealth crimes including terrorism, corporate offences, tax and revenue fraud, drug importation and money laundering.  She instructed counsel in all jurisdictions, including in the High Court and appeared as an advocate in hearings in the Supreme Court, District Court and Local Court.

Lara worked as a solicitor at the NSW Director of Public Prosecutions for 4 years where she appeared as a Trial Advocate in a large number of jury trials and sentence hearings in the District Court.  She conducted jury trials in matters involving alleged robbery, sexual assault, physical assault, kidnapping, drug supply and firearm offences.
