Nell practices primarily in criminal law. Before joining the bar she worked as a lecturer and researcher in security studies and criminology at Macquarie University. She holds a Diploma of Law from the Legal Profession Admission Board and was awarded the Stuart Spencer Prize for Academic Excellence for the highest performing graduate. She also has a Bachelor of Arts majoring in terrorism studies and a Master of Research in security studies, and is completing her PhD in terrorism.


Nell has published academic papers and chapters on terrorism, insurgency and foreign fighters. She is also the Managing Editor of the Journal of Policing, Intelligence and Counter Terrorism, which publishes international research on current issues in security and policing.
