Background

Callan commenced his legal career in private practice with a general focus on civil law.


Callan has since specialised in criminal law, having worked as both a prosecutor at the Office of the Director of Public Prosecution (2019 – 2022) and defence solicitor at Legal Aid (2022 – 2024).


Callan has considerable experience in the Local, District and Supreme Courts of New South Wales. In his practise as a solicitor, Callan routinely appeared as advocate in bail applications, mental health diversionary applications, defended hearings, sentences and appeals. Callan has experience in all manner of criminal matters including drug importation/supply, sexual offences, serious domestic and personal violence, and murder. He regularly acted for clients suffering from mental illness and/or cognitive deficits.

Callan accepts briefs in a range of practice areas and is available to appear in the regions. Callan is appointed to a number of Legal Aid panels.
