John accepts briefs in all areas of the law, with a particular interest in criminal law (including white collar crime), public and administrative law, personal injury law.
Prior to being called to the bar, John was a Senior Federal Prosecutor for the Commonwealth Director of Public Prosecutions. John has prosecuted a wide range of offences including in the areas of: large scale drug importations, child exploitation, human trafficking/slavery, money laundering, and fraud.
Prior to his role at the CDPP, John was a solicitor with the Aboriginal Legal Service in regional NSW, and in private practice in Sydney. John has represented people charged with a wide range of offences including in the areas of: large scale drug supply, homicide, sexual assault, and property crime. John has extensive experience representing people from a diverse rage of cultural and socioeconomic backgrounds, including those experiencing significant mental health and substance abuse issues.
As the Crown or for the Defence, John has appeared unled in dozens of District Court sentences (including disputed facts hearings), hundreds of bail applications and countless summary hearings.
John has also prepared for and instructed counsel in Supreme Court and District Court trials and appeals to the Court of Criminal Appeal.
Most recently, John was part of the prosecution team for a complex tax fraud trial with multiple co-accuseds in the Supreme Court.
Outside his professional life, John is a keen ocean swimmer, avid podcast listener, and specialty coffee enthusiast.
